Hi All,

It's been several years that I've kept this site running. Not sure really if it did any good or not.

However I made the decision that I no longer wanted to run the site as admin a while back, other things to do, tired of dealing with petty things after a long day at work, tired of the the blatant double standards regarding developers and the so called conservationists, when to me it was always the animals that mattered most.

So in the absence of anyone willing or more to the point who I would want to take the admin role (most have their own political agenda in this game as I'm sure many of you will know), it is with regret I've come to the conclusion that RAUK has done its thing. The site is currently being archived. Once this is complete the pages will be removed from the server. Will the forum return? I don't know I doubt it. I suspect others will fill the gap with a new site. The RAUK name and herpetofauna.co.uk address will remain, perhaps as a public information site only.

For now all I can say is thanks to everyone who contributed to the forums for making what started out as a simple "Can this work?" exercise into something worthwhile.

All the best,

Gemma

As of today, 9th June, a possibility of re-opening the forum with new administration and hosting is being investigated. Initial indications are extremely promising. More information will be made available as soon as possible.

Hi Gemma

One can live in hopes - but at the moment there are still problems to overcome. BUT

we shall overcome some da-a-a-a-ay (he sung badly out of tune)

Might have a lead on the '? ' issue,

http://forums.webwizguide.com/and-characters-in-sent-emails_ topic25860.html

Seems to be the same problem, could the server be inserting the extra character?

Interesting, that wasn't the character I typed Chris it was the A that keep appearing in the dates, perhaps it is indeed the server's interpretation that is at fault?

I have sent info by email but you had identified the core of the fault - it was just a tad more sneaky than that! Resolved now though

Astonishingly, this MAY have solved the "general" 500 error. Since the change that has only happened when doing new posts. Hopefully, if we can crack that one we'll be there!

I'm from still trying to force the 500 error (other than when posting) - I even have the forum open on three separate computers at the moment and acting like an octopus trying to zap through the forum and overload it. Still rock solid though.

This is a further post simply to force an error to check on the server's error log.

This is yet another post in an attempt to check the website's error log.

It sure did Chris. Not only does everything seem to be working now, but from this end it is running faster than ever. I always knew it wasn't the coding that made the site slow, just the rotten shared server I was paying a fortune for every 6 months!

Quick piccy test from this end, nothing exotic, but pleasing as I had this log pile put in at a local nature reserve, counted 8 adults in total using the logs and an adjacent brash pile that were constructed from materials that would normally have been chipped at the site:

Hi Gemma
Yes, although this remains a shared server, the provider for whom I am a reseller prides itself on using fast modern servers with plenty of hard disk space and RAM. Obviously there will still be odd problems at peak times but that is generally going to be attributable to ADSL bandwidth throttling rather than the server.
As for the picture, I have long been an advocate of log piles. I don't think there is a single species of native herp I haven't found on, in or under log piles at some time or another. They love 'em! (and when you get as old and knackered as me they can be handy to sit on as well !
